Grant criteria

APPLICATION CRITERIA

This program has been designed to benefit designers from historically excluded groups who possess a strong commitment to a career in live performance.  Candidates of diverse backgrounds representing the full spectrum of theatrical activity, including those who have worked in non-traditional venues, are encouraged to apply to this program. 


Candidates must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or hold employment-based nonimmigrant and immigrant visas at the time of application.

 

Candidates must have designed professionally for a minimum of three years.

 

Candidates enrolled in, or on leave from, university or conservatory training program periods are not eligible.

SELECTION PROCESS

Designers will be chosen from a nationwide applicant pool.  An independent selection panel, consisting of professional theater designers, will evaluate applicants according to the following criteria:

●      Talent, creativity, and innovation

●      Skills and professional experience

●      Potential for future excellence in the professional theatrical field. 

●      Degree to which the program can contribute to the applicant’s artistic and career growth.

●      Commitment to a career in the professional theatre 

●   Financial need


Round 1

Based on written application materials and submitted work, a group of finalists is chosen and requested to submit letters of recommendation (information due by May 15, 2024).


Round 2

Finalists are interviewed by members of the selection panel, who also review applicant portfolios and select recipients. Additional information will be provided in advance about materials required for the portfolio review (information due by July 15, 2024).

 

STIPENDS

Each recipient receives a stipend of up to $15,000.00

There is a possibility of partial grants based on specific circumstances.
